Winter Doldroms. . . Blah Blah Blah

Well, I think I have wandered aimlessly into the land of the winter doldroms. Aaaggghhh! Everything seems so boring and gray. I remember feeling this way every other year at this same time so I know it's normal, it's just so. . . so. . . boring. Maybe I'm just tired, I think! Coffee always helps! Actually, we are driving up to Oklahoma where it's even colder, to celebrate my Dad's 82 birthday! I'm excited about a change of scenery and to spend time with my parents. They still live in the home we moved into when I was 5 years old. I always enjoy going back home.

About a week ago, I decided my blog needed something new to brighten it up! I decided to put on some plaid flannel, that's always been a favorite of mine in the winter, but now even that seems boring. I'm determined to enjoy the snowflakes as long as it's cold outside, since I live in Texas, I don't get to enjoy them in real life.

I've had some new writing ideas, just haven't had the time to put them down on paper, or hmm, the virtual paper of my blog, I guess you could say. I've had the need lately to try and live in the real world, without my computer as much. But then, I find I've missed important emails from friends and interesting and inspiring blogs from you guys. Let's face it! The computer has become a part of our real world! It's kind of futuristic when you think about it. It's neat how God uses all of this new technology to bring His people together and accomplish His purposes too.

Got to go! Maybe I'll come back from my trip with a renewed perspective and energy! Just writing this has helped! Have a great weekend!

  1. Have a wonderful time, Karen! I think we all go through seasons where we crave, as you said, "real life" rather than the virtual one. And yes, computers have become part of our lives, haven't they? Blogging breaks are ok, even necessary sometimes. So long as you're still able to be encouraged and touched by the Lord in your absence. :) The best cure for the doldroms is a good dose of His truth... often it comes to me through my bloggy friends. :) God bless you, my friend! I've missed you! Enjoy your visit home! :)

  2. It is SO wonderful that you have a childhood home to visit! Happy Birthday to your dad, and have a wonderful time.

With my dad being in the service, we moved so much. But, I considered my grandmother's place "home". Maybe that's why I still enjoy going to W. Fla. Even though her house has been long gone, I still feel comfort visiting the land. God is indeed so good. ((HUGS))

P.S. I think the winter doldrums (even though I live in Fla) hits us all. We actually had two freezes this past week, and of course, I wasn't here. Some of the plants are gone, but it's all good.

  3. I've been so incredibly bored and just yesterday I was whining and complaining that I need to reconnect with my girlfriends (being in school makes me feel out of the loop)...and lo and behold I heard from THREE of them in one day. No sooner did it settle in my heart and God took care of my woes and now I have a busy week coming up with lunch dates and coffee runs...in all things, sing praises. Maybe you need a "girlfriend day" to help part with the winter doldroms...enjoy your visit home, there is something very special about "going home" ~
